A research scientist with a background in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, cancer biology and biochemistry, Sophie is an alumna and former college lecturer of the University of Oxford and a 2011-12 Google Scholar. Interested in interdisciplinary collaboration, open science and discussing the experiences of women in science, she is also a keen participant in science communication projects and university outreach.
One of her main projects is the Open Science Training Initiative (OSTI), an educational scheme which harnesses open working practices to foster improved reproducibility in scientific research. OSTI was launched during Sophie’s Panton Fellowship with the Open Knowledge Foundation (now Open Knowledge) in 2012-13. In 2015, OSTI was named as the “Best Open Science Initiative” at the Open Knowledge Awards.
